The recontruction of 1878 followed the logic of the "politeama", that is, of a theatre suitable for both prose ad equestrian performances. According to London and Paris models borrowed from alla the italian "politeama", the theatre had cast iron structures; the cavea took semi-circlar shape; the stage structure, maintained for the second order, was replaced in the first and third order by unique galeries. In 1927 the mystical gulf was added for the orchestra and the structures needed for equestrian performance swere eliminated. On the same occasion the theater was decorated ex novo by Anselmo Govi with frescoes of late liberty style: particularly interesting those of the dome, with depiction of episodes of Orlando Furioso surrounded by a band in which the opening verses of the poem are mentioned. In 1981 the theatre underwent a series of resoration interventions: cleaning, demolition of hazardous areas, reinforcement or reconstruction of the floors (first of all that of the stage), laying of new flooring.
