In the 16th century the Ruggeri family owned a villa there. In 1624 there was already an inn, opened by Count Bonifazio Ruggeri, with a small lion and for which he obtained from the Duke exemption from all duties (1). In front of Leoncino is reported in 1650 another tavern called del Sole (2). The original building was the object of a legate by the priest Count Gio. Battista Lattanzi Ruggeri, in 1665, to the Minor Fathers of St. Francis of Paola. In 1681 the Fathers founded a convent called also Hospice, leaving the tavern. They built a chapel and the hospice was called of the Angels. Obtained in 1696 the Church of St. Stephen moved to the city; the hospice was closed and entirely used as a tavern. On that occasion the complex became property of the Seminary. Then sold to the Pii Places, in 1794 it was the Pio Place of the Bastards who aligned it. In 1821 it passed to the Orphans and Mendicanti Hotel. Restored in 1841 by Arch. Pietro Marchelli, opened the Mendicità Hospitalization, which had been ordered to be created by Duke Francesco IV in 1836. The tavern was moved, with the same name, closer to the city. In 1853 the Hospitalization passed to the Opera Pia della Carità and was called "Hospitalization of Begging". In 1906, important restoration and extension works were carried out by the Engineers Montanini and Zuccardi (3). Recently the whole complex has been completely demolished.
