The locality has been remembered with its "chapel" since 980 (1). In 1046 the Monastery of SS. Peter and Prospero (2) owned several properties. The "Siso curtis" dates back to 1050 (3). The villa was named in 1063 and again in the Bull of Antipapa Clemente in 1092 in favor of the church of Reggio; Sesso gave its name to one of the oldest and most important families of Reggio (4). In 1447 it appears as an independent municipality subject later in Reggio Emilia (5). The 1458 Estimo includes 79 "fires" while at the end of the eighteenth century there are 1063 inhabitants (6). Near the detour to the parish church stood an oratory called the "Great Majesty" that figure restored in 1668 (7).
In Sesso is also reported the presence, in the twelfth century, of another Church, dedicated to St. Dalmatia, belonging to the Chapter of St. Prospero di Castello (8). The town still retains in part its characteristics of rural aggregate. It is particularly noteworthy a complex with separate bodies with buildings with a large quadrangular plan; the rustic is arranged to the south and has a two-pitched roof, the civil casino is divided into two levels and attic with regular lights and symmetrically distributed. The cover is four-pitched. Probably the estate coincides with an ancient possession of the Noble Retreat Dame called the "Red Majesty".
