The first date of the construction dates back to 1492 when the Fontanelli brothers started the renovation of an already existing building that belonged to the Da Correggio. They made interventions on the colonnade and the facade. It's noteworthy the majestic gate, on which is present an inscription in marble that recites the name of the costumers and the construction year of the colonnade. SALVATORIS ANNO ET HERCULE ESTENSE DUCE CELEBERRIMO IMPERANTE AD KALENDAS QUIDEM IANUARII HANC IOANNES IACOBUS GERMANI DE FONTANELLIS FUNDARUNT PORTICUM MCCCCLXXXXII. In recent renovations, around 1928, they replaced the shafts of the columns but the capitals were maintained. The ferrules and abutments of the gate and the windows. At the same time, it was executed a frieze commissioned by Luigi Sabbioni Bonfatti da Sabbioneta, that seems to be inspired by an ancient fragment of the frieze. Noteworthy is the inner marble well, probably from Verona. The stairway is treated with tempera paintings with childlike illustrations, decorations inspired by nature and the allegory of Aurora on a carriage.
